News Monitor

By typing "news" in the search bar or via News -> News Monitor we can access the list of all news for the currently selected instrument. The bar for filtering news allows us to add or delete companies to the filter, change the news sources, sectors, keywords and more. We can also use operators such as "and", "or" and "not" (an example is shown under Searching for news).

Double-clicking on a piece of news from the list will open it in a new window.

Additional filters can also be used — we can change for example date range within which we search for the news. This can be done by clicking on the button that represents a calendar.

The display settings can also be changed to show only the most important news or we can sort them by their sentiment.

The sentiment of news is presented by the symbols shown below. When the sentiment of the text is mostly positive, a "+" will be shown. When it is mostly negative, a  "-" will be shown. In the case that the text is mostly neutral, there will be no symbol.

The marked button on the left can be used to changed the news sources shown.

Searching using the ! function

The search bar can be found at the top of the home screen or via a shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + SPACE.

Enter in the search bar "!news" and confirm the selection of the category with a left mouse click or using the button "TAB". After that, we add the keyword that we are interested in news about, e.g. "Slovenia".

The program will offer us different options, which we can move between with the buttons "" and " " on the keyboard or the desired selection can be found by moving the mouse. By clicking on the desired option or by pressing ENTER we confirm the selection.

The program takes us to a new window where all the news items containing the selected keyword (in our case "Slovenia") are in chronological order.

Searching using multiple keywords

Let us find the news about the company Microsoft Corp. that include the phrases "Windows" and "XBOX".

First, search for the company using the search bar and press TAB. This will fix the selection to the company (when using such short commands we do not necessarily need to use TAB) and we can continue with typing.

We continue by inputting the string "news" and press TAB again. Then we add "Windows" and choose the "keyword" option in the bottom. This gives the database the instructions to return the news that include the phrase "Windows".

The same process as for "Windows" is then repeated for "XBOX". Now that all the desired conditions have been set, we can now press ENTER. Note that we could also press ENTER when typing in "news" and the keyword setting could be applied using the filter bar later.

The list of news that satisfy our conditions is now obtained. If we want to change the criteria and for example search for news that instead of both keywords include at least one (can be both), we choose the " " arrow at the operator "AND" and change the setting to "OR".

If we would like to see the news that include exactly one of the phrases, for example only "XBOX" but not "Windows", the operator "NOT" comes in handy.

To delete individual elements of the filter we can move the cursor over the element and an "x" will appear and to delete the entire filter, we use the "x" on the right side of the window.
