Instructions for use

News & Research Menu

The home page for everything news related can be found by using the function N (News & Research Menu).

From the home page, we can for example select a news-related function from the menu, or type a query in the amber box. The query can be simple, for example one-word only, but as seen below, we can also get more specific in our search and also use natural language:

We can of course also perform the search search directly from command line by typing N "news query" <GO>.

We can also use mathematical operators AND, OR, NOT. For example to exclude Netflix from a search about streaming services we can type:

When performing a search with multiple mathematical operators, we can check if the priorities between them have been interpreted in the way we wanted. This done by moving the mouse cursor over the outlined box that appears.

If the interpretation is not done in the way we wanted, we can change the query by placing parentheses between keywords and operators:

The news filter is now different (because parentheses are placed in a different way):

News for a list of tickers

To view the list of news for a previously constructed portfolio, equity index, currency basket etc., click on the blue ticker list and in the window that opens, select the desired list by double-clicking on it.

For example, to get a list of news stories for the Slovenian index SBITOP, we select Indices section in the window that opens. Then, search for "SBITOP" in the amber box of the Ticker column and double click on the desired result from the list (in this case there is only one result) and we will get a list of headlines related to the SBITOP index.

When met with the list of news headlines, preferences such as sources, dates, sorting and language can be changed using the buttons in the bar outlined below.

Some other options, such as adding more keywords or saving a search can be found in the Individual company news section.

More details on natural language queries

It is important to note that there is a difference between inputting keywords in quotation marks and without them. For example, when typing oil without them, the search will relate to the news on the topic of oil, while typing "oil" using quotation marks will perform a search for news that contain this keyword anywhere in the story.

For extensive details relating to the search queries type <Help> (F1) when using the function and select Natural Language Search.
