Chart library is a tool that can be found in tool bar. Upon opening it, a window will appear where we have an option to create a new chart or use an existing one.
By clicking the option of creating a new chart, we're taken to a new window. First step is to use Security finder as in Bloomberg terminal to find a security. We will be able to create an exact chart as in the terminal and export it to Excel spreadsheet. As an example lets select Germany's stock exchange index DAX. Add it to a collection and proceed with the next step. It is possible to select multiple elements.
Carefuly follow the procedure for creating a new chart. In this next step name your chart and select an observed time interval.
Third step is the most important. Determine the contents of the chart. We can select from among various different features. Some of them are very similar, but they show marginal differences. Also names can be almost the same so be careful! By clicking a single feature you can find its' description below. Adjacent from the name of the function you can also find the function code with square brackets. These codes can be useful since it allows us for easier selection if we know the code in advance and its harder to make a mistake than just using a name.
It is especially important to keep in mind that certain entities don't have data for all features listed. We need to know what we're searching for and what data does searched element contain. In our case when searching for the German DAX index we're probably most interested in its' price and volume etc. and not as much in ESG ratings or something similar for which it doesn't contain the data ( at least not directly, DAX 50 ESG separately monitors that).
In the last step we take care of final settings and miscellaneous. By pressing the Finish button chart is created. It might take some time to load. A black Bloomberg chart will appear as if it were in the actual terminal.
If needed, enlarge it by hovering your mouse over the edge of the chart until it's edge turns orange. On the right side we can also press Edit Chart button that allows us to change additional options. Basic chart shows us only the DAX price movements. Now we can also add volume, moving average or some other indicators. On the secondary y-axis we can also add other securities to compare. For easier differentiation between them change colours. In our example we added a German company Porsche because it is included in DAX. We can observe that it has been moving with the index but with larger moves down also underperforming within the same given time horizon.
Once we have already created a chart it will be saved. We can also recall it using Char library.
Select an already created chart to recall it. Alter the last settings and press Finish button to import it. Our old chart will be shown as it was when we last used it (with changed colours and added Porsche) and not the basic version of it at the time of its' creation (in our case containing only the price).
