Predavanja in tudi najine nastope v javnosti so poslušali zelo različni študenti: nekaj ekonomistov, študentov poslovnih študijev, zdravniki, medicinske sestre in drugi zdravstveni delavci, farmacevti, pa tudi inženirji, pravniki, politiki in ljudje iz zdravstvene administracije. Nekaj izkušenj sva nabrala tudi skozi svetovalno delo. Vse to je vplivalo na vsebino najinih predavanj. Skoraj nikoli nisva mogla domnevati, da poslušalci vsaj nekaj vedo o ekonomikah in hkrati o zdravstvu, zato je učbenik tudi namenjen zelo različni publiki. Lahko ga bere in iz njega spoznava ekonomiko zdravstva vsak, ki si vzame dovolj časa, da se "spopade" z njegovim obsegom in s številnimi informacijami, ki sva jih opisala in zapisala v učbeniku. Od bralca ne pričakujeva posebnih predznanj, zgolj voljo do spoznavanja te zanimive tematike. Bralec bo v učbeniku našel elemente osnovne in vmesne ravni mikroekonomike, ki je ekonomska iztočnica ekonomike zdravstva, in po najinem mnenju vse kategorije iz zdravstva, ki so povezane z gospodarjenjem v zdravstvu. Pri tem sva se še posebno trudila, da nisva izpustila tistih kategorij, ki jih ne srečamo niti pri študiju ekonomik niti pri študiju medicine in drugih zdravstvenih ved, vendar so ključne za razumevanje gospodarjenja v zdravstvu. Seveda pa to ni učbenik niti o ekonomikah niti o medicini. Ker je obsežen, sva pisala tako, da je posamezna poglavja iz ekonomike zdravstva mogoče študirati ločeno, ne da bi bilo treba preštudirati celoten učbenik. V učbeniku je zato tudi nekaj ponavljanj, ki kdaj pa kdaj naredijo posamezne razlage razumljivejše, saj omogočajo, da teme preberemo in spoznamo z različnih vidikov.

VBHC’s value is in the simple purpose, that of striving to maximise the results viewed from the perspective of all involved, the patient, but also the health care teams, the hospitals and the payers. The method is successful when this new approach fosters creation of trust, both within teams inside hospitals, but also among competing teams from different hospitals, with the aim to raise the bar of quality of care and outcomes. When that is achieved, everybody wins.

The Failure of Markets / Craig Allan MedlenThe core thesis of this book is that the major economic issues of renewable energy, housing, health and income disparities could best be addressed through direct government "in kind" production and redistributive measures. It is argued that this governmental "in kind" production of essential needs would allow a rapid movement towards solutions that the market cannot possibly match. The market works through indirect means. So, it is no mystery why in the areas of energy, housing and health, problems are not only formidable but in many respects are getting worse. In contrast, governmental "in kind" production would be direct. Outcomes could be explicitly planned and managers would be publicly accountable. This shift in production should be accompanied by redistributive measures through higher taxes on corporations and the rich and the possible adoption of monetary policies in line with Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). Relatedly, the book demonstrates that the current lack of imaginative solutions results from a paralysis of imagination, rooted deeply in nineteenth century liberalism that held that the market was to serve all issues. A progressive agenda today needs to separate out "needs" from "wants" and to engage government production in the service of collectivist needs. "In kind" production would infuse a democratic component within the economy. The last chapter of the book also deals with how the ideology of neoliberalism blocks even the contemplation of governmental production in the service of people's needs.
