Capital IQ Pro (ENG)

Screener

To use the Screener (used to filter entities according to any criteria we specify) within the S&P Capital IQ Pro Plug-in for Excel, select Screener/Data Wizard.

This opens a new window. Let's take a look at the use case for companies and therefore choose the Companies tab.

On the left side, in the Recommended Criteria and Browse Criteria sections, some of the filters are sorted by category for faster access.

For example, we would like to filter companies to only those whose primary business are grocery stores. We select the Industry Classification criterion. In the menu in the middle of the screen, we are offered a list of branches, among which we look for Grocery Stores. To find it, we need to expand the Retail category, which we can do by clicking on the black arrow next to the name. We repeat the process in subcategories until we reach the desired one.

As we can see in the top right corner, more than 25,000 companies currently satisfy the selected criteria. Let's add a new criterion, this time select Trading Multiples under Pricing & Market Data.

Look for Market Capitalization / Valuation under Browse Criteria and select the Market Capitalization criterion. We set the filter to only companies with a market capitalization of more than 10 million USD and select Add to add.

You can also add criteria by entering the Add Criteria line under the list of currently set filters. Let's choose Total Revenue.

After the selection, the program guides us and offers us options from which we can choose and enter them further. This is how we create the desired condition, click on Add to confirm it.

If we want to include columns with data in the results table without filtering or adding new conditions, select Display Columns.

A new window opens, in which we select the data to be displayed. On the left, select e.g. Total Return and then in the middle part of the window, tick all the desired parameters — select the last month and the last year and click Apply.

When we are satisfied with the criteria and display settings, we select Run Screen and the database will return a table of results.

By clicking on Export, the table will be exported to the used Excel file.

The table with companies matching the set criteria is successfully exported to Excel.
